The highest mountain of the Czech part of the Šumava Mountains (1,378 m) lies about 14 km west of Horní Planá and about 8 km south-west of Nová Pec found at the state border of the Czech Republic and Austria. The peak attracts visitors with a number of sights. Of these, the glacial lake of Plešné jezero is the most attractive site. On the slope above the lake there is a 14.5-m high monument dedicated to writer and poet Adalbert Stifter. On the southern hillside of Mt. Plechý, there is a rock wall of the lake kettle towering to the height of 211 meters
